I know what it's like to be an expat. I’ve lived abroad with my family twice, with small children and teenagers. I know how difficult it can be given that each member of the family has to adapt to the new country, new school, new university, new culture. This is why I established Relocation Services Chile: to support expat families, to be in every detail so that this change is a positive experience for everyone. Being an expat family brings great opportunities and we want to support them in this adventure to feel Chile like home. I had to leave Chile as a child. We left with my family for the US when I was 7 years old, to return 9 years later. Without a doubt that experience marked me deeply. So much so that as an adult she also decided to migrate, first alone and then with my partner. I know what a change of school means and as a teacher I can say that finding the right place is essential. Being part of this third international culture, of children and adolescents who grow up between different countries and cultures is wonderful and the welcome has to be very protected. I became an expat myself, with my family, and had the support of an expat service. I deeply valued having that support in the initial moments of our adjustment to the new country since simple procedures such as choosing a house, a school, doctors, utilities, etc. can be very overwhelming in a different culture. This same experience allowed me to observe the areas that not all mobility companies cover with the empathy and efficiency that families require. For this reason, on my return to Chile, I dedicated myself to assisting expat families who require psychological support for some of their members, since adjusting to a country is a scientifically proven stressor event. Analía is a Chilean Psychologist, working with children, teenagers and adults, who specializes in providing therapeutic support to families that are going through specific crises, changes in life cycle and that do not require therapy as such, but that benefit from spaces for containment and reflection.
I left Chile to live in the United States when I was in grade five. Then we were sent to Venezuela where I graduated from an international high school. While it is true that living in other countries is very enriching, there is a period of adjustment that is critical to the success of this process as a family. At that time, I was only ten years old. Today, twenty years later, I value how this experience marked me positively. I am one hundred percent bilingual, I deeply appreciate diversity and I feel prepared to live, and study, in any other culture.
